Eventful October

Oh dear. “I promise not to make a habit of this!” And look at the date. An entry a month? This is pathetic! I have been very lousy about keeping up with any blogs, much less writing. But, it’s been a craaaazy few weeks.. so I have a lot to update with.

First of all check out The Quilting Bee, and check out the October Activity. Here is my activity page if you would like to see the talented members that I have traded with so far.

A couple of weekends ago I got to do something that I haven’t done in a long, long time.. I went on a camping trip with my family. We used to go every year, but when I was a freshman in high school I did marching band and had no free weekends, plus my parents have to work a lot of weekends. So, it was quite exciting that we were going! I took Friday off from work and drove home so that we could head out to VA. We go to this beautiful place called Cave Mountain Lake. We were kind of bummed that it was going to be hot because it is usually freezing when we go. I like it cold, but I admit it was nice to spend more time sleeping than shivering. It rained some the first night. It was a pain to have wet chairs and for it to be so muggy, but it cooled things off some too. And at least it scared the bugs away and the tent didn’t leak!

It’s one of those places where if feels like time stopped when we left last time and then began again as soon as we arrived. The location is basically Nowheresville, so almost nothing had changed even though six years had passed. The only thing really different was that the camp ground was much more crowded this year. Friday night seemed pretty ordinary, but by Saturday afternoon the campground was practically full. It was a really nice weekend

Our state’s fair was in town for the past week and a half, and I live in Raleigh (NC’s state capital) so I was very close to it. My boyfriend actually works at the Fairgrounds during the year, so he was able to get free tickets and other nice things. Only bad part was that they put him on 2nd shift. I work 8am-3pm and he’s been working 4pm-2am. He’ll be back on regular schedule after Thursday, and thankfully has the weekend off. I don’t really have any friends that live less that 90 minutes away (minus Laura in Chapel Hill, but she’s busy with school during the week), so it’s been lonely. But my best gal pal Carrie and her boyfriend came to see my apartment and went to the fair with me on Sunday I’ll post some pictures of my camping trip and the fair on Flickr when I put them on my computer this afternoon.

Keeping busy while Sam is working nights isn’t too bad, except for now my car is in the shop! Now I can’t even keep busy with all of the errands that I need to run. It was overheating really badly and smoke came out from under the hood.. and it all happened when I took a wrong exit and was trying to find my way home no less. I didn’t mind not knowing where I was because I knew I could always find a sign toward the hospital that’s beside where I live. But getting stranded and not knowing where I am is different! Yesterday I took it for a friend-of-a-friend’s-mechanic to check out, and they had to replace my water pump and my timing belt. It’s a big whopping $450ish that I don’t have, but luckily they are doing us a personal favor and letting me set up a payment plan. So, maybe I’ll have it back soon. Thank goodness for connections and generous people

I’m trying to get back in the habit of posting five new links on Fridays, so watch for that
